Yarning About Urunga

Yarning About Urunga is a community consultation project initiated by Bellingen Shire Council and funded by The Department of Industry's Future Towns Program. Over three days in May 2017 a range of interactive activities are being planned to engage with the people of Urunga and wider Bellingen Shire community.

The purpose of the consultation is to seek your ideas on how a permanent place-making project in the centre of Urunga's CBD can improve economic outcomes for small business.

Place-making is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. It capitalises on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness and wellbeing.

We want to hear from you!

  • What is important to you? What are your aspirations for Urunga?
  • How could a place-making initiative be meaningful to you? What are the existing meaningful characteristics of Urunga? Heritage? Previous uses?
  • What are the stories that could or should be told?
  • What scale of public art and/or other infrastructure might be suitable?
  • Any other thoughts? All input most welcome!

Through this community engagement process, key themes and a framework for a Urunga Placemaking Project will be developed.

Yarning about Urunga, will incorporate three days of activities in the heart of Urunga CBD. Starting on Friday 12th May and finishing on Sunday 14th May, an interactive art project and conversation hub will be happening to facilitate the consultation process. Stay tuned for further details!

Share your ideas for creating a new place in Urunga. Submissions close Sunday 14th May 2017.
