The Bellingen Memorial Hall is as iconic today as the day it was opened in 1929.

The Bellingen Memorial Hall is as iconic today as the day it was opened in 1929. This much loved facility has seen and been many things over its nearly 100 years and still used for concerts, film festivals, recitals, dances, music events and more. All of its history has resulted in wear and tear and now needs some extra TLC.

Council has been working closely with the Hall Committee over many years and, while repairs and maintenance has seen some improvements, it is now time to realise what is next for this iconic space. Council has been working with the Committee and made a number of applications to help fund refurbishments and redevelopment of the Hall. Most recently, Council has made 4 applications for funding of which 3 have been successful. The successful applications include:

  • The Heritage Activation Grant - $92,243 - This will see the upstairs section repaired and refurbished
  • The Stronger Country Communities Fund - $335,151 - This will see structural works and some refurbishment completed (internal & external painting, amenities upgrades) while maintaining the heritage aspects that make the Hall so special.
  • Regional Cultural Fund - This $4.045M project will see additional refurbishment as well as a new development expanding the existing facilities to support current and future events and activities along with Stage 1 of the proposed new car park. Council applied to the Regional Cultural Fund for $3.3M to support the proposal.

Council will also be contributing $500,000 in cash and an additional $150,000 in internal resources.

Council has been engaging with approximately 20 existing user groups of the Hall to ensure that their needs are considered as part of the new proposal. Council will continue its engagement with key user groups and the community as the successful projects progress from concept design to full redevelopment.
