Bellingen Shire Council Timber Bridge Renewal Program

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Background

Bellingen Shire Council seeks to ensure the public's safety by providing a system of safe well maintained local roads and bridges.

Following the completion of the Timber Bridge Assessment Project, Council now has detailed reports on the condition and structural capacity of all timber bridges across the Shire. Upon review of these reports, it is essential that Council undertake an urgent risk minimisation approach that will include both repairs, replacements and the application of load limits.

The complete Timber Bridge 10 Year Rehabilitation and Renewal Prioritisation Strategy is attached in the document library for reference.

For the most up-to-date information on Load Limits in the Bellingen Shire refer to Council's online map.

Hi, can you confirm access for emergency response vehicles? I am a driver of a RFS Category 1 tanker in the Bellingen Shire that has a GVM of 13,000 kg. Are we legally able to cross a weight restricted bridge if responding to a fire?

Steven Salvestro asked over 2 years ago

    Hi Steven,

    Thanks for your question.

Council is currently working with emergency services to assess the impact of the weight restrictions on the provision of emergency services and to prepare contingency plans where required.  We will provide additional information as it becomes available.
