The Bellingen Coastal Management Program or "CMP" will form a long term plan to manage our coastal catchments. This is being done in line with the new coastal management reforms, and presents an opportunity to address key issues and prioritise management actions over the next ten years.

Stage One

The Bellingen CMP has only just begun, and is currently in Stage One - a scoping study. This process is being guided by the NSW Coastal Management Manual, which is available on the NSW Government Coastal Management webiste. Broadly, the main aims of Stage One are to identify stakeholders, establish objectives, determine key coastal management issues, and review current management arrangements.

So what is considered "Coastal?"

The focus area of the CMP is generally the coastline and estuaries. However, we are also looking at areas upstream of the coast that may have impacts lower down. Essentially, we are looking at our 'coastal catchments' - the Bellinger and Kalang.

How to get involved

To kick off Stage One, a survey has been created to help us understand what you value the most, and the issues that you think are important. Please use the survey link provided on this page.
