Consultation has concluded
The Queens Baton will pass through Bellingen on Thursday February 1st 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for Bellingen Shire residents to play a part in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
After an epic 288 days travelling through the entire Commonwealth, the Queens Baton arrived at Brisbane Airport on Christmas Eve. It then started its 100 day journey and will reach its final Gold Coast destination for the much anticipated Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on April 4th 2018.
The baton's 100 day journey in Australia involves 3800 baton bearers and 40,000km of travel through every State and Territory.
Bellingen Shire Council is looking forward to this very special event and hopes to use the opportunity to showcase and acknowledge our local sporting community.
Baton Bearers: 11 baton bearers will carry the baton including 8 from the Bellingen Shire with each person covering a section of about 200 metres:
Stephen Glyde
Gavin Hickey
Sheila Guymer
Patsy Green
Tianaha Willson-Baker
Dylan Kelly
Katie Thorn and
Peter Tarran
All are active community members and participate in arts, cultural, sporting, business and emergency services groups and organisations.
