Council is investing in one of its key strategic priorities, the upgrade of signature local assets and infrastructure, via the staged delivery of the Bellingen Main Street Beautification and Accessibility Project.

The project, which features four stages, aims to beautify our town centre, activate our central commercial and café precinct, and deliver pedestrian infrastructure and facilities which cater to the needs of all pedestrians.

The Church Street North Precinct Project is the fourth and final stage of works and builds on previous stages that have delivered significant streetscape improvements including new footpaths, disability ramps and crossings, seating, street lighting and high-quality landscaped spaces.

Council has secured an $885,000 grant from the Stronger Country Communities Fund to deliver Stage Four works, which continue with the pending installation of eco Jarrah timber inserts on the recently installed feature trellis shade structure along Church Street’s al fresco dining strip.

Further, to allow for the pending installation of eco Jarrah timber inserts, vine stock currently being nurtured will be planted to create a shaded trellis structure and extra seating and tables will be installed to deliver pedestrian infrastructure and facilities which cater to the needs of all pedestrians.

Complimentary Stage Four works have also included the installation of new landscape walls, feature footpaths and cobble stones, kerb and guttering and road and carpark resurfacing and Council thanks you for your patience and understanding during the final stage of these works.

Great streets move beyond roads and footpaths to become experiences.  As the Main Street Beautification Project progresses further, Council wants to ensure that Church Street café precinct becomes an area that promotes people’s happiness, health and wellbeing.  Council is therefore asking the community to share ideas that go beyond the pavement.

Two proposals have been uploaded onto the Create website including plans and concept designs outlining a potential look and feel for the Church Street café precinct.  One of the proposals includes a playground and Council would like to understand if this is something that meets the needs and aspirations of the community.

Council recognises that the Church Street café precinct is a very popular area and is therefore seeking feedback that will contribute towards the decision making process.

This survey is open until Tuesday 31 October 2017.
