Gleniffer Reserves - river bank & public infrastructure works
Subject to weather conditions, Arthur Keough Reserve will be closed from Tuesday 1 May to Friday 1 June 2018 for river bank and public infrastructure protection works including:
- Instream works to remove gravel from the bar in Arthur Keough Reserve and construct best practice river bank stabilization structures on the opposite bank in Earl Preston Reserve
- Remove mature Camphor laurels (invasive plants) from the riparian (river bank) zone in Earl Preston Reserve and
- Place large rocks approx. 200m along Timboon Road to manage vehicle access and impacts (Stage 1).
The purpose of the works is to improve the health and condition of the riparian zone, address the eroding river bank in Earl Preston Reserve and protect public infrastructure, including Gleniffer Hall and Promised Land Bridge.
These actions are implementing one of the priority projects in the Gleniffer Reserves Master Plan 2016, which was adopted by Council after extensive community consultation, engagement and public exhibition. Instream works are funded through Council for improvements to public space. Riparian rehabilitation works have been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust.
This project is a partnership between Bellingen Shire Council and Never Never Catchment Group. Council has engaged the expertise of NSW Soil Conservation Services to implement the works. Additional riparian rehabilitation works are planned later in 2018 including invasive plant management and tree planting.
