Consultation has concluded

A local group of community youth, schools and artists have joined forces to add some street art to the changing Bellingen streetscape.

It’s called the PoP Art Project (Paint our Poles Art) and it is the collaboration of the Bellingen Mentor Group, Bello Youth HUB, Essential Energy, Bellingen High School, Bellingen Public School, Arts Network Bellingen and various other community groups to have some fun and bring some artistic flair to our streets, or more specifically our power poles.

The project has been placed on the Create website in order to gather community feedback on the painting of our pilot pole in Church Street (opposite the toilet block).

We would love you to complete the survey below and let us know what you think.

Thanks

It’s called the PoP Art Project (Paint our Poles Art) and it is the collaboration of the Bellingen Mentor Group, Bello Youth HUB, Essential Energy, Bellingen High School, Bellingen Public School, Arts Network Bellingen and various other community groups to have some fun and bring some artistic flair to our streets, or more specifically our power poles.

“It started as an idea from Essential Energy and after just a few initial conversations with local youth, artists and schools, it was clear it had real potential,” says Grace Menzies from the Bellingen Mentor Group who helped start the project.

“We then got support from the Bellingen Shire Council’s Creative Placemaking Initiative and we were away. The idea of local artists collaborating together, guiding the process as well as mentoring youth is tremendously exciting and we hope it will inspire, educate and really give the community some quality works to enjoy”.

The project will start with just one pole in Church street (in front of the toilets) to give the wider community a chance to see what it might look like and provide comments and feedback, including any ideas about themes or designs for subsequent poles.

At this stage, there are about 40 poles that are being considered, although the final scope of the project will be decided after the results of the pilot and community feedback. The additional works are planned for commencement early in 2018.

All comments and ideas are welcome and can be made on the Bellingen Shire Councils Create website, via facebook (Bello Pop Art) or the Bello Youth HUB website www.belloyouthhub.net.
