Exhibition has concluded

Driver fatigue is one of the three main killers on NSW roads, and can be as dangerous as speeding or drink driving. Council is committed to providing rest areas along key routes in the Shire to allow motorists to take appropriate breaks and to avoid fatigue.

This Policy has been developed to assist both Council and visitors with information on designated areas within the Shire that are acceptable rest areas for travellers, holiday makers and visitors. In particular, to include areas identified as suitable options for extended stays (up to 48 hours):

  • Roses Reserve, Thora
  • Burdett Park Carpark, Fernmount
  • White’s Quarry, Deer Vale

Existing areas identified are Newell Falls Rest Area, Dorrigo Mountain, and Mountain Top Rest Area, Dorrigo Mountain, however these are not considered to be suitable for extended stays.

Council is now seeking your feedback on the Draft Policy.

Submissions will be received from Monday 16 November 2020 until 4:30 pm on Wednesday 16 December 2020. All submissions are to include the reference Submission - Draft Rest Area Policy.

Emailed submissions are preferred, and should be directed to council@bellingen.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively, written submissions can be sent to the attention of The General Manager, Bellingen Shire Council, PO Box 117, BELLINGEN NSW 2454.

The Draft Policy can be downloaded from the Document Library, with hard copies available for viewing at Council's Administrative Centre, as well as the Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga Libraries.

If you have any questions, or wish to discuss the Draft Policy further, please contact Councils' Group Leader Building and Regulation, Mr Glen Pereira, on (02) 6655 7300.
