Bridge Street Reconstruction Works

The next stage of the Bellingen Main Street Beautification Project is planned to commence on Monday 30 April.

During that time there will be works on Hyde Street around the existing pedestrian crossing near the Memorial Hall and on Bridge Street to realign the Waterfall Way intersection. The works will involve the relocation of the existing pedestrian crossing on Hyde Street as well as earth works, pavement works, upgrade of the water main, installation of power and lighting, tree removal and landscaping in and around the intersection.

Bridge Street Reconstruction Works

  • Works to commence at Bellingen Post Office Corner

    These works will involve the removal and replacement of existing footpath and kerb and gutter from the driveway between the Bellingen Post Office and the Police Station continuing to the new pedestrian access across Bridge Street.

    Access, including disabled, will be maintained to the post office.

    Some pedestrian diversions will be in place while works are carried out as the corner of Bridge/Hyde Streets (Post Office corner) will be closed to pedestrians wanting to cross Bridge Street.

    The works are expected to take approximately 4 weeks to complete and enquiries should be directed to the Operations Support Officer on 6655...

    The Bellingen Main Street Beautification Project, in the vicinity of the Hyde and Bridge Street intersection, is being readied for completion prior to the Bellingen Music Festival being held later this week.

    As such, the following changed traffic conditions will apply tomorrow, Tuesday 10 July 2018.

    The left hand turning lane from Bridge Street into Hyde Street will be closed to enable sealing works to be undertaken.

    Alternate access can be gained by turning right into Hyde Street, then left into Church Street and left into Park Street.

    Main Street beautification works are progressing well with the footpath on the southern side of Hyde Street completed in preparation for concrete honing and sealing. The footpath replacement on the northern side of Hyde Street will continue next week following the relocation of Telstra services.

    Weather permitting it is planned to complete the remaining kerb and gutter, footpath and walls at the new pedestrian crossing on Hyde Street by the end of next week, and then construction of the kerb and gutter will continue down Bridge Street.

The footpath replacement on the northern side of Hyde Street will continue next week following the relocation of Telstra services.

    Weather permitting it is planned to complete the remaining kerb and gutter, footpath and walls at the new pedestrian crossing on Hyde Street by the end of next week, and then construction of the kerb and gutter will continue down Bridge Street.

    Pedestrians are reminded to follow the direction signs to avoid the worksite. Traffic control will be remain in place throughout the week and motorists may experience minor delays.

    This week will see the completion of the footpath works on the southern side of Hyde Street (excluding the new pedestrian walls and access).

    Underground electrical cable installation is underway in Bridge Street to enable removal of the power pole on the corner of Bridge St and Hyde St. These works are necessary for the construction of the new turning lane and providing power for new street lighting and wall lights at the new crossing on the northern side of Hyde Street.

    Stage 3 of the Bellingen Town Centre Beautification Project is progressing well with the installation of kerb and gutter and coloured concrete on the southern side of Hyde Street from Ford Street to the Memorial Hall being completed.

    Vegetation removal from Maam Gaduying Park has been undertaken in preparation for future works.

    On Friday 25 May works commenced on the installation of decorative cobbles in the footpath in Hyde Street from Ford Street and extending to the Bellingen Courier Sun building. It is anticipated these works will be completed by Friday 1 June 2018.

    Future works on the northern side of Hyde Street adjacent to Waterfall Way Information Centre and Maam Gaduying Park from Ford Street to the pedestrian crossing will include:

    · Monday 28 May 2018 - Demolition and construction of a new footpath in Hyde Street

    · Tuesday, 29 May 2018 - Kerb and guttering replacement and concrete works will commence in this area

    Parking

    Parking and access in Hyde Street including the bus bay area will be temporarily restricted with NO PARKING in Hyde Street (both sides of the Street) between Ford Street and the pedestrian crossing from 5.30am to 5pm daily.

    Bridge Street

    Council will also be commencing earthworks in Bridge Street on Monday 28 May 2018. These works will result in intermittent closure of one lane of traffic in Bridge Street which will be managed under traffic control.

    Night works will be undertaken in Bridge Street to allow minimal disruption on the evenings of Thursday 31 May and Friday 1 June 2018 from 6pm – 2am for trenching works for the installation of electricity and conduits across Hyde and Bridge Streets, Bellingen.

    To ensure minimal disruption to traffic, residents and local businesses pedestrian access will be managed on site during the construction and access to businesses in this area will remain available with some exclusion areas. Pedestrians are requested to exercise caution in this area and adhere to the controls in place.

    Council is currently upgrading the water main in Hyde Street Bellingen as preliminary works for Stage 3 of the Bellingen Main Street Beautification and Accessibility Project.

    To ensure minimal disruption to traffic, residents and local business during this phase of the project, Council will be undertaking night works from 7.00pm on Tuesday, 8 May 2018 until 6.00am on Wednesday 9 May, weather permitting.

    The westbound lane of Hyde Street will be closed to all traffic between Ford Street and Bridge Streets in Bellingen. The area will be under traffic control and motorists are requested to adhere to the control measures...
